  • Macaroni: 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • Cheese Sauce: 4 tablespoons butte Salt and pepper to taste
  • r4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1/2 cup Gruyère cheese (optional), shredded
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground mustard powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Topping: 1/2 cup reserved cheese blend (for crusty topping)

Instructions
 

  • Cook the Macaroni:
    Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
    Cook the elbow macaroni until al dente according to package instructions.
    Drain and set aside.
    Prepare the Cheese Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
    Whisk in the flour to create a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
    Slowly pour in the milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
    Simmer the sauce for 5 minutes until thickened.
    Remove from heat and mix in cheddar, Parmesan, and Gruyère cheese. Stir until melted and smooth.
    Combine Pasta and Sauce: Pour the cheese sauce over the cooked macaroni and mix until well-coated.
    Assemble and Bake:Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    Transfer the mac and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish.
    Sprinkle the reserved cheese blend evenly over the top.
    Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
    Serve:Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
