Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½ pounds round steak, cut into serving-sized pieces
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: fresh herbs like thyme or parsley for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Tenderize the steak with a meat mallet or marinate for at least 2 hours in soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic.Pat the steak dry and season both sides with salt and pepper.
    Stovetop Braising:Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.Sear the steak for 2-3 minutes per side.Remove the steak, sauté onions and garlic, then deglaze with beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce.Return the steak to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 1-2 hours on low.
    Slow Cooker Method:Place the steak, onions, garlic, and liquid ingredients in a slow cooker.Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours until tender.
    Oven-Braised Round Steak:Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).Sear the steak as above, then transfer to an oven-safe dish.Cover and bake for 1 ½ - 2 hours.Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or buttered noodles. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  • Tenderizing the steak with a mallet or marinade is key to making it soft and flavorful.
  • For more flavor, add a splash of red wine to the broth.
